Bacon Wrapped Dates with Spicy Honey
This Spanish traditional appetizer is a personal favorite of mine. Today I made twelve, my girlfriend Aurora was lucky enough to get two of them! During a whole day of cooking, this dish was plated from start to finish in less time than any other dish I was working on. This appetizer has a lot of flavor and entertains all the senses in one bite. If there was ever something that I make that you think about trying, this is the one to try!
16 Large Dates
8 Strips Good Bacon
1 C Honey
1 Tbls Smoked Paprika
½ Tsp Cayenne Pepper
½ Bunch Cilantro
Remove the pit from the date by making a small incision from the middle of the date to the tip. You will be able to feel the pit with the tip of your knife. It’s important to keep the date intact and to not squish it while removing the pit.
Cut the 8 slices bacon in half vertically to create 16 pieces of bacon. Wrap each date with one piece of bacon. Secure the bacon tightly with a toothpick going through both ends of bacon and the date.
Arrange dates in any oven-safe dish and bake at 350F for 15-20 minutes, turning half way through. Bake until perfectly browned.
Right before you remove the dates from the oven, chop cilantro finely. Heat up honey in a small pot on low then add paprika and cayenne.Stir to mix and keep hot.
Arrange dates in a serving dish and drizzle with the warm honey. Finish with the freshly chopped cilantro.
